So what’s involved? We’re inviting dance groups and individuals to choreograph to our SAUCE dance track to see the way you take on the Latin music and make it your own! Whatever your style, whether you’re a ballet dancer or a hip hop dancer, a troupe or soloist, it doesn’t matter!

On the 17th March 2012 we shall be hitting the streets of Leeds raising money for Candlelighters, a Yorkshire based charity who provide essential services and support to children with cancer and their families.

We’ve joined forces with Salsa Dance Leeds and The Dance Company UK to put together a fun dance routine which we will be performing on Briggate throughout the day.

The Flashmob was to celebrate the launch of the Christmas menu at Red Hot World Buffet Restaurant, so dressed the part in the restaurants t-shirts, the dancers made their preparations and hid amongst the crowd ready to start.

The music started, the dancers threw off their coats to reveal the t-shirts and the place lit up with the energy and infectious tunes of Hairspray and Glee!

The crowd loved it and good fun was had by all especially the dancers who then all got treated to a free meal in the restaurant- fab way to round off the evening! And the food was delicious!

Massive thank you to all the dancers for your hard work: Nicole, Milly, Cara, Emma, Esther, Krystal, Bianca, Felicity, Laura, Claire, Katie, Johnny, Jay, and Genevieve!

Hot topics, heated debates, steaming conversation in a simmering atmosphere.

Freshly brewed is a fun, friendly social event for dancers, artists, teachers, and organisations from all backgrounds to meet face to face with some mulled wine and a mince pie in hand.

This unique relaxed environment is the perfect place to meet and network with local dance enthusiasts, catch up with peers as well as share ideas, plans and opportunities. Whatever your background this free event is open to all, from undergraduates to established professionals.

Fancy a chance to SAMPLE SOMETHING SCRUMMY AT YELP’S FOODIE FAIR?

Well then, we’ve got rather exciting news to share! On the 24th November 2011, from 7pm-9.30pm, we’re holding a humungous yelper party event at the Corn Exchange. What does that mean? Basically, some of Leeds’ and Yorkshire’s finest eateries and drinkeries will be offering up a myriad of mini delicious delights for you to sample at your leisure during the evening, all entirely for FREE.

Think of it as Yelp’s own foodie festival, where you can sup on some fantastic samples, in a one-off tasting event at this exclusive party. The event will be in support of the fantastic St. Gemma’s Hospice, and the wonderful work that they do here in Leeds, so each table will have a collection tin for those that wish to give a little something back.

There will also be some exclusive entertainment during the night, courtesy of The Dance Studio Leeds, who will be fascinating us with their footwork – so get your smart phones ready as you won’t want to miss a beat…

This is a new scheme which we are piloting from September 2011.

With funding cuts being made left, right, and centre, we wanted to try and offer something to help dancers and artists that need support with their work.

Albeit a small drop in the ocean it might at least help a few along the way!

So how does it work?

Every 2^nd and 4^th Friday in the month we will offer 2 x 3hr studio slots for free: 11-2pm and 2-5pm.

It will be on a first come first served basis by visiting our Facebook page on the Wednesday (2 days before). The first person to post on our wall after 9am: ‘Friday’s Free to Dance’ followed by the time you’d like, secures the slot.

E.g. Friday’s Free to Dance 11-2pm

We will also make a note of a reserve group for each slot in case of last minute cancellations.

The first Friday will be the 9^th September so make sure you contact us on Wednesday 7^th September.

Who can use it?

This is open to ALL dancers and performers. The only condition is that you use the studio for non-profit purposes and spend the time productively!  

How often can you use it?

To try and let everyone have a chance to benefit from this, we are limiting it to one slot per person/group per month. We ask you are fair to all on this and don’t try and sneak in more slots than allowed!

Rules?

We ask you take good care of the studio whilst in your use and leave it as you would expect to find it – clean and tidy!

Please finish 10mins before the end of your slot to allow for a changeover between groups so that everyone is able to start on time.

If you repeatedly run over or regularly cancel the slots you have booked we will disallow you from using the free slots. Please be respectful to others if you want to benefit from this scheme.

This fantastic open air stage event is all part of the Leeds Festival Fringe which takes places 18-24th August as a run up to Leeds Festival. This 7 day event takes place all over the city centre giving upcoming bands and musicians a chance to showcase their talent. Now in it’s second year it promises to be an even bigger and better event which is supporting Martin House Children’s Hospice.

On 2nd July 2011 Quarry Hill in Leeds will be alive with buzz and excitment! A FREE fun festival for all ages, there will be workshops, performances, art stalls, behind the scene tours, and much much more!

Quarry Hill Creates includes organisations such as Northern Ballet, Yorkshire Dance, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Leeds College of Music, BBC Leeds, The Wardrobe and ourselves, all of which are based on or around this artistic quarter of Leeds.

Here at DSL we are very glad to be involved with this fantastic event and will be programming lots of FREE workshops including:

10.30-11.30am Allstylaz Break & Street Dance (suitable for all)

11.45-12.45pm DSL Youth Dance Workshop (11-19yrs)

1-2pm Hip Hop with Ess Green (11yrs min, inter + level)

2.15-3.15pm Hip Hop with Ryan from the Animaineax – an ’A1 off’ workshop (11yrs min, inter + level)

3.30-4.30pm Tap Dance Workshop (11yrs min)

4.45-5.30pm Wedding Dance Hints and Tips

Workshop spaces are filling fast so we recommend booking online in advance.

The event takes place on the 2nd July 2011 between 10-6pm.
